Starex Turbo Engine Obtains Ministry of Environment Certification

DNGB Obtains Ministry of Environment Certification for Starex Turbo Engine

First in Korea Using LPLi Method, Excellent Output and Starting Performance

DNGB (CEO Lee Yong-gyun), a company specializing in gas vehicle engine development, obtained Ministry of Environment certification for its Starex turbo engine on the 3rd and will begin mass production from the 8th.

The turbo engine certified by DNGB is the first in Korea to use the LPLi method, and is described as an engine with significantly improved performance in output, fuel efficiency, starting capability, and environmental performance compared to previous mixer and LPGi methods.

DNGB’s LPLi turbo engine is more advantageous than diesel vehicles in fuel efficiency at current fuel price levels. Output also shows approximately 3-5% improvement after conversion, with slight variations depending on the vehicle’s pre-conversion condition, demonstrating performance equivalent to diesel vehicles. Starting performance was also excellent, with 1.2-second start at minus 15°C in winter and 0.8-second start at coolant temperature of 105°C in summer.

Additionally, exhaust gas characteristics meet EURO III regulatory standards, with emissions at least half the level of previous conversion method engines, which is expected to greatly contribute to air quality improvement.

Team Leader Jeong Jae-sik of DNGB’s Low-Emission Engine Division stated, ‘With this LPLi turbo engine certification from EngineTech, customers now have wider options for LPG vehicle conversions, and we expect it will also contribute to environmental improvement.’

EngineTech, which successfully completed a pilot project with Seoul City for CNG garbage trucks (3.5-ton Mighty, 2.5-ton Frontier) at the end of last year, is planning additional pilot projects with Seoul City in the second half of this year.

The company is also accelerating the development of LNG dual-fuel engines for large freight vehicles, a project promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
